NHER 50925 (Cropmark and Earthwork record) - Earthworks of a trackway and/or boundary bank of probable medieval to post medieval date

The earthworks of probable medieval to post medieval boundary bank or raised trackway are visible on aerial photographs of Whin Common, Tottenhill (S1-S2). This site is centred on TF 6395 1112. The earthwork consists of a curved bank, 200m long and up to 5m wide, and flanked by a narrow ditch on either side. The eastern end of this site was levelled by 1963 (S2) and a school recreation area is located on the site. The former linear can clearly be seen as a parchmark within the grass. The western section is just discernable in 1963 amongst encroached scrub and trees on the Common, which is now completely tree covered. It is likely that the earthworks survive within this woodland. A similar curving earthwork, located on the edge of the former Tottenhill Heath, was also identified on aerial photographs approximately 850m to the northeast (NHER 59028).
