Full Description
March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a trackway of unknown, but possibly late prehistoric to Roman date, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Thieves Bridge Road, Watlington (S1). The site is centred on TF 6299 1025 and is located to the south of the late Iron Age to Roman settlement at 60 Acre Field and Police House Field, Watlington (NHER 39457-8). This trackway leads towards two groups of enclosures, one of probable Roman date (NHER 50944) and another group of possible late prehistoric date (NHER 50943), although the dating of this site is less certain. The trackway may be associated with these earlier enclosures, although this is completely clear from the cropmarks.
The trackway runs intermittently for approximately 200m and the ditches are 6m apart.
S. Massey (NMP), 05 March 2008.
