Full Description
March 2008. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of ditched boundaries, probably the remains of several phases of field boundaries, and a possible enclosure, potentially dating to the Roman and medieval periods, are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Watlington Park (S1-S4). Finds of Roman and medieval date have been found within the general vicinity of the site (NHER 23601, 25341) and are likely to indicate that the cropmarks date broadly to these two periods. Unfortunately the palimpsest nature of the site marks a clear identification of two phases hard.
The site consists of a series of parallel ditches, which are probably the remains of medieval to post medieval agricultural features. In the centre of the site is relatively broad ditched feature, which may represent part of a rectilinear enclosure, although it could equally be a medieval to post medieval field division.
S. Massey (NMP), 05 March 2008.
