Summary

Rifle butts, with flagstaff, marked on first edition six inch Ordance Survey map– firing positions range up to 900 yards to southeast. It is probable that this is a Volunteer Movement range although it might have belonged to a private club.

Rifle butts, with flagstaff, marked on (S1) – firing positions range up to 900 yards to southeast.
The footpath that ran to the butts from the northeast still officially remains as a public right of way.
It is probable that this is a Volunteer Movement range although it might have belonged to a private club.

June 2009. Earthwork Rapid Identification Survey.
The rifle range consists of a c45m long linear north-facing steep scarp aligned east-west, up to 1.2m high. A series of slit trenches about 12m to the north may be related to any use of the range during 1914-18.
