Location

Civil Parish WOOD NORTON, NORTH NORFOLK, NORFOLK

Map

April 2008.
An L-shaped pond is shown on the current Ordnance Survey map (S1), the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S2) and the Wood Norton tithe map (S3). It may be the surviving section of a medieval moat.
The possible moat appears as two ponds located within an L-shaped parcel of land on the Wood Norton Enclosure Map (S4). The L-shaped land parcel suggests the pond existed when the map was surveyed, but its depiction as two separate ponds implies that sections of it were dry.
The possible moat could be associated with possible fishponds to the southeast (HER 51522).
D. Robertson (NLA), 30 April 2008.
