Map

May 2008.
Two fishponds of possible medieval to post medieval date are shown at this location on the 1840 Rockland St Mary tithe map (S1-S2). A rectangular pond measuring approximately 30m by 20m is labelled ‘Fish Pond’ on the map. A circular pond with a diameter of approximately 23m is present to its north. Both ponds appear to have a central island, but it is possible that this is a result of the way that they have been depicted on the tithe map with only their edges coloured in blue. A small oval pond measuring up to 7m long is present to their north, but it is probably of natural origin. These ponds are not shown on the first edition six inch to the mile Ordnance Survey map and it is not known if they survive as earthworks.
J. Albone (NLA), 07 May 2008.
