Summary

Several undated features and finds ranging from the neolithic to the post- medieval period were found during an evaluation in May and July 2008. A desk- based assesment from July 2007 suggests high potential of prehistoric and post-medieval finds and features.

The desk-based assessment suggests the site has a high potential for prehistoric and post-medieval finds due to evidence collected from the surrounding area.

May 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of southern part of proposed development area. From context 1.
Finds from a trench in the southern field included a struck flint flake, a small fire-cracked flint fragment and a small fragment of prehistoric pottery. Metal- detected finds included a medieval silver cut farthing, a small lead domed cap and a discoidal button, both post-medieval in origin.
Two small sherds of Bronze Age pottery were found in a further trench in the southern field.
A single flint flake and a fragment of prehistoric pottery were recovered from an additional trench in the southern field, along with a post-medieval small flattened thimble

July 2008. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of northern part of proposed development area.
Two small pits containing burnt material were found close together in a trench in the east of the northern field. The first pit was circular,with concave sides and an uneven base. The second pit was circular, with concave sides and a rounded base, and contained small fragments of charcoal and burnt bone.
A single, small post hole was discovered in the northern field and contained a small piece of white-glazed, post medieval ceramic.
A small circular pit with concave sides and a flat base was revealed in a further trench in the northern field.
A narrow, undated ditch with an approximated north-south orientation was discovered in a trench at the north end of the field. It emerged from the soutern limit of the trench and continued north for 13m before reaching the eastern limit of the trench.
