Map

October 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3) in this area relate to a linear bank and associated possible extraction pit feature for which a late medieval or early post medieval date seems likely. The site is centred at TG 2559 1270.
It is possible that this site is related to, and possibly contemporary with that to the east (NHER 50985), which represents common edge enclosure to the west of Sprowston common (S4) and to the north of Mousehold heath (S5). The two sites may represent settlement shift towards Mousehold heath, as other sites (NHER 50727, 50728, 50729 and 50730) in the area have shown (S6).
The linear bank feature runs north-south for approximately 217m from TG 2562 1282 to TG 2558 1260 and appears to respect the position of a paleo-channel visible beneath, and of the possible extraction pit to the west, which is centred at TG2562 1273 and is approximately 16m in diameter, although almost rectilinear in shape.
