Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Undated linear features of more than one phase, and possible pit features were visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2526 1023. Their exact function is unclear, although they appear likely to relate to land division. The earliest of these features appeared to be a curvilinear ditch of approximately 67m in length on a roughly northwest-southeast alignment. This feature is similar to a ditch recorded approximately 1km to the east (NHER 51908), but it is difficult to say whether they are related.
Overlying this feature were several linear ditches, two of which were parallel to each other with others running roughly at right-angles to them. The two parallel ditches were oriented on the same, roughly northwest-southeast alignment, as the field boundary shown on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map (S3), and as such have been assigned a medieval to post medieval date.
Three possible clusters of pit features were also visible across the site, centred at TG 2527 1024, varying in diameter from 1.3 to 6m. It is possible that these pits represent natural features in the underlying geology, and they have therefore been recorded with caution.
E. Bales (NMP), 10 November 2008.
