Map

July 2002. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of building work at The Old Gatehouse.
One burial of an articulated skeleton and an assemblage of disarticualted human skeletal remains were discovered. The articulated skeleton was aligned east-west at a depth of 1.30m. The disarticulated remains appear to have been recently disturbed during the construction of a fence and redeposited together. The remains of a minimum of five individuals were identified, which points to the existence of a burial ground of which there was no previous knowledge. The burials may be of medieval date or earlier, based on ceramic evidence. A Thetford-type jar rim and 6 sherds of Scarborough ware were recovered.
