Map

November 2008. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of rectilinear enclosures and field boundaries probably relating to a medieval to post medieval farmstead are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3). These cropmarks are centred on TG 2958 1071. A large (approximately 408m by 186m) field boundary or enclosure is visible, surrounding several smaller overlapping rectilinear enclosures (maximum length 50m by maximum width 28m) adjacent to Hare Road. The north-south section of the large external boundary, stretching from approximately TG 2946 1087 to TG 2949 1069 coincides exactly with the tithe map of the area, and can therefore be dated to the medieval to post medieval period.

The smaller, internal enclosures may relate to a post medieval farm, which is called ‘Rookery Farm’ on Bryant’s 1826 county map (S4) and is also shown on Faden’s 1797 Map of Norfolk (S5), centred across Hare road to the east (NHER 45126).

The large external ditch appears to cut an earlier, sub-square enclosure (NHER 51945), which may not be related to the farmstead.
