Full Description
February 2009. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometry survey of proposed site of biomass power station.
The survey revealed a probable ditch to the east of the site, and a U-shaped ditch, possibly part of an enclosure, to the west of the site.
See (S1) for further details.
A. Cattermole (NLA), 11 September 2009.
May 2009. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey.
Field survey of proposed site of biomass power station.
51 pieces of worked flint were recovered, 49 of which were waste flakes and two of which were scrapers. Three small fragments of abraded tile were collected, one of which may be part of a Roman tegula, and another which may be part of a medieval or post-medieval roof tile.
See report (S2) for further details.
A. Cattermole (NLA), 11 September 2009.
November 2009. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed site of biomass power station.
Three pits and one ditch of possible prehistoric date were observed. Finds recovered included Early Bronze Age and medieval (14th - 15th century) pottery and a small assemblage of Early Neolithic worked flints.
See report (S3) for further details. The results of this work are also summarised in (S4).
The associated archive has been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2010.97).
S. Howard (HES), 22 February 2011. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 24 August 2015 and 11 May 2019.
October 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Study of the available aerial photographs revealed three possible ditches in the area (recorded as NHER 54499), at least one of which coincides with the eastern-most ditch revealed through geophysical survey of the area.
The U-shaped possible enclosure was not discernable on the available aerial photographs, nor were the scattering of possible pits on the east side of the site (S1).
E. Bales (NMP), 18 October 2010.
