Full Description
March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A possible ring ditch located at TG 2896 0953 recorded with caution as the cropmark was not entirely convincing, being slightly blurred and only visible on one set of aerial photographs (S1). The feature was similar in size (12m internal diameter) and character, having a possible causeway to the south east, to the smallest of three ring ditches located approximately 800m to the southwest (NHER 21766), and has therefore been tentatively dated to the Late Neolithic to Early Bronze Age.
E. Bales (NMP), 11 March 2009.
May 2015. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of land south of Smee Lane and west of proposed route of Norwich Northern Distributor Road.
Although a discrete anomaly appears to coincided with this cropmark, this change in the background texture does not have the characteristics of an infilled ditch and was instead regarded as possibly evidence of a former sand quarry.
See report (S2) and NHER 62623 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 7 March 2021.
