Full Description
April 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A series of former banks are visible as negative cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2) on land to the south west of St Andrew’s Hospital, Thorpe St Andrew, centred at TG 2785 0907. These features probably represent post medieval agricultural building footprints but may indicate the presence of some form of enclosure on the site of an unknown date. There appears to be a central bank, approximately 4.5m in width, running roughly north east-south west for approximately 32m, from TG 2786 0906 to TG 2784 0903 with two further banks perpendicular to it, the longest of these measuring 48m in length by up to 3.4m in width.
They are only visible clearly on one set of photographs (S1), and faintly on another (S2), and are clearly plough-damaged, and have therefore been recorded with a note of caution. They do not appear to be depicted on the historic maps of the area.
E. Bales (NMP), 7 April 2009.
