Full Description
August 2009. Building Survey.
Level 2 survey of agricultural buildings prior to their proposed conversion.
The farm it thought to have existed before the late 18th century and multiple structures are shown on both Faden's 1797 map of Norfolk and Bryant's 1826 map. The 1840 tithe map show an extant buildign aligned east-west at the north-eastern corner of the farmyard and at this time a small farmhouse was also located to the north of the farmyard. The next 40 years saw the development of the farmyard and the construction of buildings to the south and south-west of the structure shown on the tithe map. The area around the farmhouse to the north also underwent considerable expansion during this period and the ordnance survey maps indicate that most of these buildings survived until 1905. The earliest and best preserved building was a possible laithe house, which is a type of building uncommon in Norfolk that combined a threshing barn with and cow shed with living accomodation under a single roof. The majority of the remaining structures were built between 1840 and 1880s and were mainly for housing cattle, horses and equipment.
