May 2010. Test Pit.
A 1m by 1m test pit was excavated by local students as part of Access Cambridge Archaeology's Higher Education Field Academy.
The pottery recovered was mixed throughout the contexts and included a small quantity of Late Saxon, medieval, and post-medieval sherds and a large quantity of Victorian pottery.
Following the excavation, it was discovered that soil from the rear of the property had been redeposited in the area of the excavation, which accounts for some of the disturbance recorded and explains the high quantity of 19th and 20th century finds mixed throughout the test pit. It is believed there was occupation in this vicinity in the Late Saxon and medieval period, but shifts in settlement patterns resulted in a more agricultural use from the 13th century onwards. The level of domestic rubbish deposited here increased in the 19th century and the current house was constructed in the mid-20th century.
