Summary

Trial trenching at this site in 2009 revealed a number of ditches of probable medieval to post-medieval and a single undated post-hole. These lay beneath a deep disturbed subsoil that was likely to be the result of the site's previous use a nursery. A single undated ditch was recorded during subsequent groundworks at the site in 2014. Unstratifed finds recovered during these two phases of work including Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval clay pipe and pantile fragments and undatable animal bone.

Evaluation of proposed development site.
A deep, disturbed, undulating subsoil deposit was present which was likely to be the result of the site's previous use as a nursery.
A number of undisturbed linear features were exposed beneath the subsoil, including several ditches of that produced small quantities of medieval to post-medieval pottery. A possible post-hole of unknown date was also recorded.
Other finds recovered during this work including residual Roman pottery sherds, post-medieval clay tobacco pipe and pantile fragments, post-medieval or later bottle glass, animal bone and various mollusc shells.

September-December 2014. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of single residential dwelling.
The foundation trenches excavated for this building revealed a single undated, north-to-south aligned ditch.
Finds were limited to one sherd of medieval pottery and six pottery sherds of 19th-century or later date.
