Map

October 2009. Norfolk NMP.
An area of possible military structures, a possible Nissen hut type structure, and an area of disturbed ground which appears to relate to military practice trenches, are visible on aerial photographs (S1)- (S2), centred on TG 1604 1608.
The area of possible military buildings, centred on TG 1608 1634, may in fact relate to agricultural use of the site, as the buildings, or spaces formerly occupied by them, appear to increase in number between 1942 (S1) and 1945 (S2).
It is possible to make out the curved roof of a Nissen hut type structure, measuring 24m by 7m, at TG 1613 1607, and it may be possible that this is the hangar that ‘remained among the modern farm buildings’ from the World War One airfield (NHER 13627) recorded in (S3), although there appear to be areas of disturbed ground around it, and it is quite possible that this structure was in use during World War Two.
There are also several possible practice trenches, centred on TG 1596 1590, visible as fresh disturbed ground in 1942 (S1), and therefore also likely to relate to World War Two activity.
E. Bales (NMP), October 2009.
