Summary

During a watching brief human bones belonging to three adult individuals were recovered along with possible coffin remains from previously disturbed burials belonging to a former cemetery shown on historic maps and thought to have medieval origins. It is not clear whether this cemetery was associated with theformer friary located a short distance to the west (NHER 5477) or with St James' chapel (NHER 5484) just to the north.

Monitoring of small-scale excavation to repair a sewer main.
Disarticulated human bones including fragments of up to three adult skulls, long bones, mandibles, vertebrae and phalanges were discovered, along with possible coffin remains. These remains are from previously disturbed burials from a former cemetery shown on historic maps and thought to have medieval origins. It is not clear whether this cemetery is part of the former friary located a short distance to the west (NHER 5477) or associated with St James' chapel (NHER 5484) just to the north.
