Summary

Fragments of a possible medieval to post medieval trackway are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs, on land to the northwest of Horsford Castle. Given the fact that it runs almost parallel to the edge of a plantation depicted on the Tithe Map of 1841, it has been tentatively assigned a medieval to post medieval date.

Map

November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Fragments of a possible medieval to post medieval trackway are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), on land to the northwest of Horsford Castle.
The trackway runs from TG 2015 1596 to TG 2017 1606, and appears to be represented by two fragmentary linear ditches, approximately 3.2m apart. It is only clearly visible on one set of photographs (S2), and is apparent as a blurred cropmark on another (S1), but given the fact that it runs almost parallel to the edge of a plantation depicted on the Tithe Map of 1841 (S3), 84m to the east, it has been tentatively assigned a medieval to post medieval date.
E. Bales (NMP), November 2009.
