Full Description
January 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Undated possible linear ditches and a pit feature are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1), on land to the north of London Road, Wymondham. The features are centred on TG 1004 0073.
They consist of a northwest-southeast ditch, which runs from TG 1010 0079 to TG 1014 0072, parallel to a possible linear feature identified 140m to the east (NHER 31470). A curving linear ditch is also visible from TG 0096 077 to TG 1012 0071, and a short section of north south ditch is also visible to the south, although this feature may represent agricultural practice such as the application of fertiliser on one area of ground more than the rest, as it is parallel to the field edge.
The pit feature, centred on TG 1009 0077 measures approximately 12m in diameter, and may relate to post medieval extraction within the field.
It must be stated, however, that all these features are only visible on one set of aerial photographs, and have therefore been recorded with extreme caution, especially in light of the fact that possible cropmarks in the field to the east (NHER 31470) visible on the same photographs did not appear to represent archaeological features when the area was subject to excavation (NHER 36666)
