Map

April 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary ditches of unknown date, some of which are likely to represent former field boundaries and a small square enclosure, 20m across, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Keswick Hall to either side of the Keswick and Swardeston parish boundary (S1). The site is centred on TG 2069 0354. The date of these features is not known, but finds in the vicinity range in date from the prehistoric to the medieval and post medieval periods (NHER 14279 & 29293). A pre-Roman date is suggested for these features based on the morphology of the cropmarks and the implied relationship with the Roman road (NHER 52027) that runs across the site, separating two cropmark components that have a shared alignment. Numerous natural cropmarks are also visible within the field and have been omitted from the mapping. There is also some uncertainty over the archaeological origin of some of the features recorded, in particular the southernmost ditches.
S. Horlock (NMP), 1 April 2009.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
The area examined coincided with the majority of the cropmarks in this group. There was though no clear evidence for associated sub-surface remains.
See NHER 66379 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 27 January 2023.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable.
Two of the trenches excavated at this location coincided with cropmarks in this group. There was again no evidence for associated sub-surface remains.
See NHER 66379 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 25 October 2022.
