Full Description
February 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Several linear ditches and possible ponds are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs on land surrounding Church Farm, Rocklands. The linear ditches are centred on TL 9984 9596 and the area of possible ponds centred on TM 0009 9598.
It is likely that the linear ditches to the west represent drainage features, as the field does contain a field boundary marked on the Tithe Map of the area, which has since become used as a drain, running from TL 9992 9594 to TL 9987 9583, into which three of the linear east-west ditches appear to drain.
Two parallel north northeast-south southwest linear ditches were also visible centred on TL 9973 9596, which may also have performed a drainage function.
To the east of Rocklands Road a series of ponds are visible, which may not be archaeological in nature, but have been mapped due to the frequency of earthworks in this area. The largest of these ponds measures approximately 12m by 9m, and is centred on TM 0008 9602. It appears to be part of a network of linear ditches, which may also have performed a drainage function.
