Map

February 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks and earthworks of medieval to post medieval field boundaries, enclosures, a possible wood boundary, a pond and a possible toft, are visible on aerial photographs (S1)-(S11) of the area surrounding Green Farm, Little Ellingham. Some of these features have been formerly recorded as NHER 29581.
A possible enclosure is visible (S9) centred on TM 0037 9962. This feature measures at least 60m by at least 78m, and may represent two sides of a rectangular enclosure, although it is possible that the ditches represent former field boundaries, as they appear to be a continuation of ditches to the east, some of which (those that converge at TM 0062 9965) are depicted on the tithe map of the area (S12).
An L-shaped pond, shown on Ordnance Survey maps has associated boundary features as drainage ditches to the north and adjacent similar features to south and east.
The meandering ditch to the east may be the boundary of Lister Wood, shown on 1840 Tithe Map (S12) within which the pond is situated. One or more platforms, which may be that to which the record NHER 29581 refers, measuring a total of 38m by 31m are visible as possible earthwork banks.
Further field boundaries or possible drainage ditches are visible in the field to the south east, centred on TM 0069 9930, on a similar alignment to field boundaries depicted on the tithe map.
Further possible drainage ditches are visible to the south of Attleborough Road and to the west of Rookery Farm, and a second possible enclosure is visible, centred on TM 0084 9904, measuring a minimum of 74m by 52m, although this is only visible on one set of photographs (S2), and has therefore been recorded with a note of caution.
