Map

November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
A multi-period cropmark site, consisting of ditches, field boundaries and possible trackways representing more than one phase of activity, is visible on aerial photographs to the south of Howe Lane, Brooke (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2824 0013. Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age and Roman, Saxon, medieval objects have all been recovered from the wider vicinity of the site (NHER 10133, 15195, 19928, 20252, 20678, 22607, 22762, 31453, 31654, 37672), although there is no direct relationship between the finds and the cropmarks. The site relatively near to the location of a probable Roman settlement (NHER 15195) and it is therefore possible that some of the ditches are of Roman date. The two ditches that run broadly parallel to the post medieval field pattern are likely to be late medieval to post medieval in date.
