Map

November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of field boundaries of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the northwest of Alpington Hall (S1). The site is centred on TG 2878 0117. The site consists of a group of enclosed fields and boundary ditches which are probably broadly post medieval, or late medieval to post medieval, in date. None of these fields are depicted on the 1839 Bergh Apton Tithe map (S2), but many of the boundaries follow a comparable alignment to the surrounding late medieval and post medieval field layouts in the surrounding area. Cropmarks of post medieval field boundaries actually depicted on this 1839 Tithe map have not been included within the NMP mapping. The undated Tithe map for the adjoining Brooke parish to the immediate west (S3) shows the potential complexity of the field divisions that may have formerly been present at this site, of which the cropmark boundaries and enclosures would have formed part.
See NHER 52432 for discussion of this area of fields.
