Map

December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of fragmentary field boundaries and ditches, probably representing the remains of several phases of former fields of unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Caistor Lane, within the Caistor St Edmund and Stoke Holy Cross parishes (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2523 0312. The date of these cropmarks is uncertain. Finds recovered from the wider area of the cropmarks include prehistoric, Roman and medieval material (NHER 9889, 28010 and 29001). The vast majority of the cropmarks are of fragmentary ditches, assumed to represent the remains of former field boundaries. Many of these are aligned broadly northwest to southeast. An L-shaped ditch at TG 2538 0306, could represent the remains a rectangular enclosure, measuring at least 33m by 44m (S1-S2). Two parallel ditches, approximately 20m apart, located within the south-western part of the site, could feasibly represent a wide trackway or similar feature. A field boundary or drainage ditch of probable post medieval date within the central part of the site was omitted from the mapping.
