Map

December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of two possible ring ditches, potentially representing the remains of Bronze Age round barrows are visible on aerial photographs to the east of Leafyoak Lane, Poringland (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2664 0099. The main possible component of the site is large ring ditch, slightly oval in shape and measuring 45m by 52m. The ditch varies in width from 1.5m to 3.5m. The cropmarks are of dubious archaeological origin and may well be geologically derived. A number of other more obviously non-archaeological curvilinear features in this area have been omitted from the mapping. A smaller ring ditch is located on the southern edge of the larger possible circular feature, centred on TG 2663 0096, and measuring 10.5m. These possible barrows are alongside a former watercourse, depicted on Faden’s map of 1797 (S3), but now heavily drained. The site is approximately 600m to the southeast of another ring ditch (NHER 53225), also located alongside this watercourse and a major barrow cemetery (NHER 52421) is located approximately 1km to the southeast.
