Map

December 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of ditches, field boundaries and a possible trackway of probable medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Abbott’s Lane, Poringland (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2581 0071. The majority of the cropmarks appear to represent the remains of former field boundaries and divisions associated with the few boundaries depicted within this field on the 1838 West Poringland and Howe Tithe map (S4), suggesting that the ditches relate to former field and land divisions of post medieval or medieval to post medieval date that have been removed prior to the 1830s. The slightly sinuous double ditched linear feature is likely to be a trackway. The slightly smaller divisions within the southern part of the site may relate to agricultural enclosures.
S. Horlock (NMP), 29 December 2009.
