Full Description
November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of former strip fields and furlongs of medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the west of Alpington Hall (S1-S2). The site is centred on TG 2847 0110. These strips and their early nineteenth century allotment details are clearly depicted on the 1805 East Poringland Tithe map (S3) and the cropmarks were therefore not mapped, rather their presence and the map reference is noted for future use in research into the landscape history of this parish.
S. Horlock (NMP), 3 November 2009.
February 2016. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Poringland to Whitlingham Rising Main pipeline.
This survey of a narrow strip through the southern half of the site revealed no potentially archaeologically-significant anomalies.
See NHER 69537 for further details.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 10 October 2025.
