Summary

The cropmarks of two ring ditches, which potentially represent the remains of later prehistoric or Iron Age roundhouses or Bronze Age round barrows, are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Caistor Lane, Caistor St Edmund. These ring ditches could feasibly represent the remains of the eaves-drip gullies of later prehistoric to Roman date roundhouses. The smaller southern ring ditch may be located within one of the enclosures recorded under NHER 52260, interpreted as being either later prehistoric to Roman in date. However the northern ring ditch would appear to be overlain or overlies ditches seemingly of the same phase. An alternative interpretation is that one or both of the ring ditches represent the remains of a Bronze Age round barrows.
