Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and slight earthworks of a possible Bronze Age round barrow are visible on aerial photographs to the south of Hallback Lane, Caistor St Edmund (S1)-(S2). The site is centred on TG 2430 0429. The site consists of a circular and slightly raised parchmark, 11.5m in diameter. This would normally be indicative of a Bronze Age round barrow, however the site appears to be located within an enclosure of probable Roman date (NHER 52252). It could be suggested that it would be unlikely for a Roman enclosure or farmstead to enclose a prehistoric barrow. An alternative interpretation could be that the slight mound and parchmark relates to the former presence of a Roman building or building platform.
