Map

March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a small ring ditch may be visible on aerial photographs to the west of the Roman town at Caistor (S1). The site is centred on TG 2227 0329. The cropmarks of the penannular ring ditch, 5m in diameter, are extremely faint and within an area of geological cropmarks and therefore the archaeological origin of this feature is uncertain. If this ring ditch is archaeological then it may represent the remains of a small Iron Age temporary and/or agricultural structure, comparable to the similarly sized ring excavated as part of the Harford Park and Ride excavations 1km to the north (NHER 9794, 52314) and interpreted as Iron Age structures. Although as no pre-Roman date material has been recovered from this area to date (NHER 9743), it is possible that it relates to Roman date structure.
