Full Description
March 2009. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of boundaries of either Roman or medieval to post medieval date are visible on aerial photographs to the southwest of the Roman town at Caistor (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 2250 0303. These boundaries fall into a category of landscape features to the west and southwest of the Roman town at Caistor, where it is hard to confidently interpret as being Roman in date. None of the ditches are marked on the historic maps referred to, such as the Tithe map, but the arrangement of the boundaries could easily fit within the post medieval layout. However the boundaries do follow a broadly comparable alignment to other cropmarks recorded in the area which would appear to be Roman in date (NHER 52194 and 52211).
S. Horlock (NMP), 11 March 2009.
