Summary

During a watching brief in June 2001 an alignment of posts was revealed that could be the remains of a timber causeway. It is possible that this site might date to the Iron Age as suggested by comparison with similar sites in the east of England. A deep sub-oval pit may have been broadly contemporary with the causeway.

The site consists of an alignment of posts that could be the remains of a timber causeway. It is possible that this site might date to the Iron Age as suggested by comparison with similar sites in the east of England such as Flag Fen near Peterborough. A deep sub-oval pit may have been broadly contemporary with the causeway. A collection of well-preserved animal remains were recovered from the peat including a complete horse skull with visible butchery marks.
