Full Description
March 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A block of possible ridge and furrow of medieval or post medieval date is visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1945-6 (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 1166 0646. The width of the supposed ridges is approximately 6m, suggesting a medieval date for the features. However, while being slightly curved, the ridges are relatively straight, with no clear sign the distinctive S-shape typical of the period, and a later, post medieval, date is equally plausible. The site has since been levelled, and the absence of any later photographs showing the features means that the archaeological origin and significance of the features cannot be verified; they might instead represent recent agricultural marks.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 25 March 2010.
