Full Description
September 2009. Building Survey.
Level 2 survey of agricultural buildings at Hall Farm Barns, prior to their proposed conversion.
Although a similar shaped structure to the current cow shed is shown on the 1806 enclosure map it seems unlikely that this is the the same building as the original structure shown on the map is more the size of a large threshing barn. It is likely that the stable building may date from this period and is probably the earliest of the extant buildings. The stable has undergone a number of adaptations and was probably originally accessible through the ground floor doorway that is now blocked up. The partial obscuring of the western door to the stable by the building interpreted as being with a cart shed, implement store or livestock housing clearly indicates that this structure is a late addition. Both the cow shed and possible cart shed date to between 1806 and the 1880s along with one of the shelter sheds that is shown on the 1st edition ordnance survey map. A second shelter shed is present by at least the mid 20th century.
