Full Description
March 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Three probable World War Two bomb craters are visible as earthworks, cropmarks and soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 1224 0616. The earliest photographs of the site (S1) show the features as relatively fresh earthworks, although already subject to at least one season’s ploughing. The craters are positioned in a line and are all of a similar size and appearance, suggesting that they are the product of a single raid. With no clearly identifiable target in the vicinity the bombs may have been dropped mistakenly, or at random, perhaps by a bomber wishing to jettison cargo before returning to base. Later aerial photographs indicate that the craters have now been substantially or wholly levelled.
S. Tremlett (NMP), 29 March 2010.
