Summary

At least two probable World War Two structures, likely to have been used as air raid shelters and/or an ARP warden’s post, are visible (largely) extant on aerial photographs taken in 1945. Both were sited on the pavement along Judges Walk, Norwich, and both bear similarities to surface air raid shelters located in residential streets across the city. This approximate location, however, is recorded as that of ARP warden’s Post F7, ‘Judges Walk by Unthank Road’, and it is therefore possible that one or both of the structures was also (or instead) used for this purpose.

Map

May 2010. Norfolk NMP.
At least two structures, probably of World War Two date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1) as largely extant structures (the southernmost is only partly visible and missing its roof), centred at TG 2089 0698. Both were sited on the pavement along Judges Walk, Norwich, and both bear similarities to surface air raid shelters located in residential streets across the city. This approximate location, however, is listed in Banger (2003, (S2)) as that of ARP warden’s Post F7, ‘Judges Walk by Unthank Road’, and it is therefore possible that one or both of the structures was also (or instead) used for this purpose.
