Summary

Small openings in the ground surface, surrounded by concrete, are visible on 1945 aerial photographs in yards surrounding what are now the Colman and Clare schools, Eaton. These almost certainly mark the location of World War Two below-ground air raid shelters, which are evident at several schools in Norwich. Two main areas have been identified, but small, light-coloured marks or patches visible on the same aerial photographs at various points throughout the school grounds may mark the site of further shelters where the entrances and/or ventilation shafts have already been filled in.
