Full Description
April 2010. Norfolk NMP.
At least four linear ditches, which are likely to date to the medieval to post medieval period, are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S2) in the area to the north and south of Spixworth plantation, centred on TG 2455 1429.
The linear ditches which are oriented east-west are likely to be medieval to post medieval in date, as they appear to be continuations of field boundaries visible on the Tithe Map (S3).
Those on a north northwest-south southeast alignment, however, may be earlier in date, as they share an alignment with the possible Roman road (NHER 52126), approximately 200m to the west.
E. Bales (NMP), April 2010.
April 2012-April 2013. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometry survey on proposed line of Norwich Northern Distributor Route (Block 54).
The area examined coincided with the east-to-west aligned cropmark at TG24381415 but revealed no evidence for associated sub-surface remains.
See report (S4) and NHER 61135 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 14 July 2019.
