Summary

A probable World War Two ARP warden’s post is visible as an extant structure or building on aerial photographs. A post – Post G7 - is recorded in a bibliographic source as having been located on Lubbock Close and Elizabeth Fry Road. The small, rectangular structure is similar to other known or probable ARP posts recorded elsewhere in Norwich. A small circular structure, perhaps an incinerator or hearth, visible nearby could be a related feature, although similar structures, with no apparent association with a military or civil defence use, have been identified elsewhere in the city.

Map

A probable World War Two ARP warden’s post is visible as an extant structure or building on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2084 0835. A post – Post G7 - is recorded in a bibliographic source (Banger 2003, (S3)) as having been located on Lubbock Close and Elizabeth Fry Road (presumably at their junction). The small, rectangular structure is similar to other known or probable ARP posts recorded elsewhere in Norwich. This example has a blast wall or traverse protecting its entrance. A small circular structure, which looks like a section of up-ended concrete pipe, measuring approximately 1.5m in diameter, is visible less than 3m to its northwest. It could be a related structure, although similar structures, with no apparent association with a military or civil defence use, have been identified elsewhere in the city (and not recorded by the NMP). They may represent incinerators or hearths.
Later aerial photographs (S4) demonstrate that the post had been removed by 1951.
