Full Description
April 2010. Norfolk NMP.
The site of a World War Two searchlight battery and possible military training site is visible on aerial photographs on a piece of land to the east of Cromer Road, Hellesdon (S1-S4). The site is centred on TG 2191 1195 and consists of at least four circular banked features, connected via a series of pathways. Possible military buildings are visible to the south west at TG 2185 1196, although they appear to have been removed by 1945 (S2). At the south-eastern corner of the site there is a possible spigot mortar emplacement or weapons pit, centred on TG 2199 1189.
An area of possible practice trenches is also visible on photographs from 1945 (S2), centred on TG 2179 1201.
E. Bales (NMP), April 2010.
