Map

July 2008. Building recording.
The Old School House is located next to the village school and comprises a 2-storey building with a red brick cross wing to the north side. Stylistically the cross-wing appears contemporary with the school, which was built in 1877. The joists in the original room suggest that this building was constructed in the 17th century. The crow step gable could also be consistent with a mid-17th century date. The decorative brick cornice suggests a late 18th or early 19th century date.

January 2009. Building recording.
It would appear that the early parts of the Old Schoolhouse (parlour) and The Old Post Office were originally a tripartite house or parlour, hall and one or two service rooms. The only evidence for an original staircase is next to the lobby entrance but there seems to be no original access between the parlour and hall chambers and it is probable that the service end had its own staircase. As this house was built with two storeys and no evidence for timber-framed windows it is porbably that a mid-17th century date is more likely than an early 17th century one.
