NHER 53594 (Monument record) - World War Two bomb crater

A World War Two bomb crater is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 1382 0801. The crater has been mapped schematically; it is visible surrounded by a ‘halo’ of upcast material which has not been mapped by the NMP. There may have been further craters in the area but none of the possible examples visible on the aerial photographs (such as the scar or depression at TG 1359 0789 to the southwest) is certain enough to warrant mapping. The crater could be related to the pillbox (NHER 32483) visible 330m to the east; this may have had an anti-aircraft gun mounted on its roof and could have been the intended target for the bomb.
