Full Description
April 2010. Norfolk NMP.
Several undated linear ditches, as well as a possible ring ditch or windmill mound and several possible pits are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S3), along with an earthwork ditch feature and possible mound, on land to the north of Boundary Road, Hellesdon. The features are centred on TG 2117 1148.
The possible ring ditch is centred on TG 2116 1146 and measures 9m in diameter, it is possible that it exhibits an internal pit feature, and may represent the cropmark of a medieval to post medieval windmill mound.
A second possible circular mound feature is visible in the vicinity, although only on one set of photographs (S3), and it is possible that this feature, along with the curvilinear earthwork ditch to the west may not be archaeological in origin. Several possible pit features are also visible across the area, many of which appear to be the result of geological patterning, but the most convincing of these have been mapped.
E. Bales (NMP), May 2010.
