NHER 53608 (Monument record) - Probable post medieval boundaries and possible ridge and furrow

Boundaries and/or trackways of probable post medieval date, plus an area of possible ridge and furrow, are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1), centred at TG 1370 0733. The alignment of the features is compatible with that of the surrounding field boundaries depicted on historic maps (such as the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25 inch (S2)), and they seem likely to be contemporary with High House Farm (NHER 49716), much of which is of mid 19th century date, or its precursor. One of the tracks or boundaries, which forms the eastern edge of the block of possible ridge and furrow, corresponds with a track depicted on the 2nd edition map (S2). In the field to the west, two near-parallel linear ditches, aligned approximately north-south, correspond with lines of trees depicted on the Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6 inch map (S3). Overall, the boundaries and tracks are likely to represent small-scale subdivisions of land within the immediate environs of High House Farm. The possible ridge and furrow, which is both narrow and straight in appearance, is also of probable post medieval date and appears to be part of this same pattern of small-scale land division.
