Summary

A World War Two emergency water tank is visible as an extant structure and earthwork (since levelled) on aerial photographs. This was not a typical circular tank, of the type found throughout Norwich during this period; rather, it was a raised square embanked reservoir or pond, but which was almost certainly constructed for the same purpose – to provide a water supply for fire fighting following bombing raids.

A World War Two emergency water tank is visible as an extant structure and earthwork (since levelled) on aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2125 0749. This was not a typical circular tank, of the type found throughout Norwich during this period; rather, it was a raised square embanked reservoir or pond, but which was almost certainly constructed for the same purpose – to provide a water supply for fire fighting following bombing raids. It was presumably provided specifically for the hospital in whose grounds it was located. It had been levelled by 1951 (S3).
