Summary

A group of perhaps ten World War Two below-ground or sunken air raid shelters is visible as earthworks and structures on 1940s aerial photographs. They lay behind what is now the Wensum View Youth Centre and Wensum Middle School and were presumably provided for the protection of pupils and staff.

Map

June 2010. Norfolk NMP.
A group of World War Two below-ground or sunken air raid shelters is visible as earthworks and structures on 1940s aerial photographs (S1)-(S2), centred at TG 2119 0938. They are principally visible as an earthwork or parchmark along (presumably) the length of the shelter, and as pairs of sunken entrances, surrounded by concrete or other masonry, sited at each end (twenty entrances suggesting ten shelters). The shelters lay behind what is now the Wensum View Youth Centre and Wensum Middle School and were presumably provided for the protection of pupils and staff.
