A World War Two emergency water tank is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S3), centred at TG 2026 0871. Tanks such as these were used to provide a store of water for emergency fire fighting following bombing raids, and numerous examples are evident across Norwich. This example may be that recorded in a bibliographic source (S4) as being located on Bowthorpe Road outside the Norwich Institution, although it lies a considerable distance (some 500m) to its southwest. Later aerial photographs (S5) indicate that the tank had been removed by 1951.
